“Every step we take should leave a positive footprint on the planet we call home.”
Simon Manning, Managing Director – Nina Hospitality
Nina is acutely aware that everything we do has a potential impact on our planet and the communities that surround us. We strive to create a place with ESG approaches embedded in every aspect of our business and operations, including but not limited to reducing emissions, providing greater career opportunities, and enhancing the living environment.
EMBARK ON A GREEN JOURNEY
As a member of Chinachem Group, we take a crucial position to be part of the ambitious carbon reduction roadmap that we call, CCG 3050+.
Nina strives to contribute positively to the planet through our sustainability commitment.
- The chiller plant replacement program is a crucial aspect of our sustainability efforts across all our hotels. Together with Chinachem Group and CLPe, we build Hong Kong’s first zero-carbon chiller system at Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West, that will reduce the electricity consumption by over 50%. The replacement program will also be completed across all five hotels by 2030.
- Embarking on the implementation of continual environmental improvement through energy and waste management, our properties have achieved ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications. Additionally, Nina Hotel Kowloon East has also obtained ISO 22000 certification, making it the first hotel in our group to achieve triple ISO certification.
- A variety of features for water saving are implemented across our properties, leading to a reduction in annual water intensity (m3/m2) by over 20%.
- Eco-friendly amenities are applied in each guestroom. Guests can take part in our efforts to protect the planet while enjoying a comfortable and environmentally friendly stay.
- Echoing the HKSAR Government's Roadmap on the popularisation of Electric Vehicles ("EVs"), we have been taking proactive actions to support the transformation of the city's urban mobility scene by increasing the adoption of EVs in our operations and providing car park lots with EV chargers at our properties.
- As a member of the Pilot Food Waste Collection Scheme initiated by the Environmental Protection Department, we have implemented various initiatives to deal with the surplus food at our properties. We have set up 5 food digester machines to process and reuse the excess food. Additionally, any excess food that cannot be processed by the machines will be transferred to O•PARK, helping to prevent tons of food from reaching landfills.
- Our restaurants promote “Bring Your Own Container” programme and we have been committed to working with the Lever Foundation by using only cage-free eggs in all Food & Beverage operations of Nina Hospitality by 2025, while we also feature vegetarian menus, hydroponic vegetables and healthy corner. In addition, by sourcing sustainably in alignment with WWF guidelines, we are ensuring there's enough seafood for all to enjoy.
- We blend the style and environmental responsibility in our upcycled uniforms across the properties, helping to reduce the material usage. For example, the uniform for RÚ, a Chinese cuisine restaurant at Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West, is made of eco-friendly materials, such as upcycled polyester blend, wool blend, and bamboo fibre. The uniform's finishing details and micro-elastic elements provide both comfort and durability. The leftover fabric from producing the uniforms is upcycled to create ties, uniform’s inner facing and inner trimmings, further reducing production waste.
CARING OUR EMPLOYEES AND COMMUNITY
As part of employee promise within our service philosophy Nina’s Way, Nina is people-oriented and values the principle of “Places with Heart”. We inspire, trust, enable and respect our employees, and strive to uplift their overall well-being.
We provide enjoyable work experience. We recognise and reward employees for their performance and potential while also offering endless career growth and development opportunities.
Create an environment that is both fair and equal, designed to attract and retain talented individuals who value modern practices.
Nina also places strong emphasis on serving the community by utilising our resources and formulating long-term and sustainable community programmes. We build long term partnerships with different Non-Profit Organisations such as:
- Partner with Y.Elites Association, an organisation that shares our passion for society and youth development, to provide affordable youth hostel spaces at Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West.
- Partner with Foodlink Foundation for donating surplus food from our restaurants to those in need.
- Continuous support Operation Santa Claus since 2015, an annual charity campaign jointly run by South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong.
- Unwavering support to the online charity auctions by Heep Hong Society, helping children and youth of diverse needs.
- Contribute to the community via various volunteer works such as food distribution to the beneficiaries via FoodLink.
- Providing Golden Gourmet menu across our buffet restaurants to offer seniors the opportunity to savour authentic and nutritious meals.
UPHOLDING OUR GOVERNANCE STANDARDS
Recognition
We take pride in receiving recognition for our achievements in the community. These motivate and inspire our stakeholders to creating places with heart together.
